Playing Video Games

S has the chicken pox, so she’s just hanging out playing video games. But she doesn’t sit on a couch to play games, she hops around the room with the controller. If the character she’s controlling jumps, she jumps. If the character sidesteps an obstacle, she jumps sideways. It cracks me up every time. If we’re playing a game together (our current favorite is Over the Hedge), I’ll be sitting in my favorite game-playing position completely still while she runs around me playing the game. Does this mean she isn’t taking the game seriously? Oh no, she’s learned the art of throwing the controller in frustration. Her father would never dream of doing this, I handle game-playing with grace and class, but she picked it up somewhere. A video of her playing games is up on a the Movies page. I have a feeling she’s going to take to the upcoming Nintendo Wii very naturally. Tonight we read Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Alexander is listing all the horrible things that happen to him during the day, and towards the end he says “There was kissing on TV, and I hate kissing”. I read that part and next to me S groaned. She understands that is pretty horrible. We’re looking forward to seeing all the Johnsen’s and Roberts this weekend.
