Five Cover Songs
Nov 24th, 2007 by jeremy
I love cover songs. A great cover takes it and turns it into something new and interesting. Here are five cover songs that beat the originals.
1. Baby Got Back by the musical genius Jonathan Coulton (who also wrote the amazing end-credit song to the new game Portal). Originally by Sir Mix-a-Lot. The cover is hilarious.
2. I’m on Fire by Heather Nova. Originally sung by Bruce Springsteen
3. Wonderwall by Ryan Adams. Originally by Oasis
4. Hit Me Baby (One More Time) by Travis. Originally by Britney Spears
5. Fields of Gold by Eva Cassidy (she also does a pretty great cover of Over the Rainbow). Originally by Sting
I love covers too. My top five would be:
1. Johnny Cash’s cover of Trent Reznor’s “Hurt.” Great video too.

2. Green Day’s cover of John Lennon’s “Working Class Hero.”

3. Foo Fighter’s cover of Prince’s “Darling Nikki.”
4. Dixie Chick’s cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide.”

5. Rob Thomas’ cover of “Time after Time.” (even though I don’t care for Matchbox 20)
