Britnie worries that the choices we make for her to hand out at My Girlfriends Kitchen are sometimes too strange and everyone will toss them straight in the trash. We like the meals that are different, things we’ve never tried before. But I can understand some people may not want to branch out and instead stick with thing they know they’ll like. So now I’m asking for your help with two questions. If you were participating in in a meal sharing group (each person brings a meal for everyone else, so you end up with nine new meals to stick in your freezer) would you rather get nine meals that are new foods you either haven’t tried before, or nine meals that you’ve probably made yourself, and you know you recognize. Note: for those of you reading in an RSS reader, you’ll have to go to the site to take the polls.
Because we weren’t sure, we went safe this time. Here’s a photo of three things we’re trying out. In your opinion, which of these would appeal to the average family? If you pick none of the above, give us a suggestion.
First off we have bakes squash and shells pasta. Pretty simple, and very easy and cheap to make.
Next is what we’re calling the chicken and bean fiesta. Layers of tortillas, cheese, chicken and black beans. A little more work, but still pretty easy to do.
Last is roast chicken and vegetables. Squash, onions and mushrooms roasted with chicken breasts layered on top.
I love your meals, they have all been fantastic. We had the thai soup last night and loved it!
I tend to get stuck in a rut when I cook at home, but if I’m getting/making meals to switch around I’d want things I wouldn’t normally make myself.
I love to try new things, but I can understand that sometimes it’s easier to make something that the kids will eat. At least 50% of what I make in a typical week is something new. Winners get put into the regular rotation.
It doesn’t make sense to me that you make things to which everyone is accustomed. I like to sample new recipes to see if I want to make something. This way, I haven’t gone to all the work to make something that I didn’t like, or, conversely, I now have tried something that I will make again and again. Generally, this is how I obtain new recipes - something that I tried, liked, and asked for the recipe.
I am the most boring cook ever. I tend to stick to the staples when I cook but I am always willing to try something new at someone else’s house. If I like it, I might ask for the recipe and try it myself. Although these days I don’t have time to cook. As a side note, I am enjoyed taking the polls.
I think I’d rather have something new. It’s a way to try stuff I would normally be too scared to try myself. It sounds like a great idea.
