I get emailed questions occasionally about what some of my favorite sites are. I’m going to try and write a little bit about them, maybe highlight a few of my favorite posts. I’ll start it off with two that I visit daily.
The first site I visit every day (through the magic of my RSS reader) is Dooce. Her daily anecdotes about parenthood, Utah, photography, etc are very funny. She takes great photos, but they all run together for me after a while because almost every one is of dogs, some obscure piece of furniture or a plate. So it’s not my thing, but still great photography. She has a slightly dark sense of humor, and doesn’t fit into the typical mindset of a Utahn, all of which I find very enjoyable. She also has a young child, and I get a kick out of stories about parents dealing with their spawn. She’s also some kind of power blogger who is currently appearing at SXSW. She updates the site a couple of times a day, so there’s usually something new to look at or read.
Some of my favorite posts from the past include a conversation about country ribs, the mathematical probability of what will happen if a woman asks a man to wash her back, and praying before traveling.
The second site is my sister’s, Notes from the Kitchen. While she has the occasional photo of my favorite niece and the goings-on in their life, most of her posts share great recipes she’s discovered in her giant collection of cookbooks. She’ll usually talk about why she’s posting a particular recipe, then the results. If her husband John likes a dessert, I’m usually pretty sure it will be one I like as well (we both have a thing for chocolate). A few of her posts I’ve enjoyed recently include one about movies and life, soup and a wrap-up of some great children’s books she’s been reading.
She usually updates once or twice a week.
Feel free to list some of your favorite sites in the comments, I’d love to check them out.
Most of the blogs I read are family and friends but there are 3 that I lurk every so often. One of them is nieniedialogues.blogspot.com. I don’t know why but I can’t stop reading this blog even though sometimes nie nie drives me nuts. She is like the “perfect wife” almost too perfect. I like to tell myself that it is fake otherwise I feel like a failure as a wife and mother in comparison to her.
One of my new favorites is http://www.sansomfamily.com. She has some great recipes, pictures, and is hilarious. I don’t know who she is but she lives in North Salt Lake. Check it out!
